We’re moving most of our customers to MyHost
It’s because we’ll do anything to keep prices down.
Today we’ve emailed most of our customers to say a sort of goodbye. We’re about to be forced into raising what we charge for .nz domains, and we don’t think that our customers deserve that. Luckily, we have a sister company who can help out.
This is happening now because our domain supplier is raising prices by around 10% at the end of this month. It’s not a small increase, and it’s very short notice, and we can’t avoid it. Luckily, our customers can avoid it - and they will.
People join Domains Direct because they want the lowest-cost .nz domains they can find. We don’t want to take that away from anyone who’s already paying just $19.50 a year (+GST).
All we needed was a way to cut the connection between our customers and our supplier. As it happens our sister company, MyHost, runs a platform with a completely separate supply chain, so they will be able to offer our current customers the old $19.50 price while we keep operating with a higher price tag.
The move from our platform to the MyHost platform is known as a migration. For customers there’ll be somewhere new to login, with more bells and whistles on offer, but the same price as ever. For us, there’ll be a happy goodbye to say to everybody, knowing that we’ve put customers first rather than just started charging more.
MyHost is our sister company. Same 100% NZ ownership, same team, same management. Quite a few of our customers already rely on MyHost for their Web Hosting, so for them we’ll be bringing things together more closely.
The migration to MyHost will happen later this month. You won’t need to worry about nameservers, DNS or anything else technical, and you’ll even keep the same password (but not your user name - on MyHost you’ll log in with your email address instead). You’ll need to add credit card details, since we don’t copy that sort of data between systems for security reasons. Then you can keep paying $19.50/yr for .nz domains.
